Enjoy a short hike to arrive at the “Big Stump”, which is all that remains of the 1300 year old Mark Twain tree, felled in 1891. It took loggers a whopping 8 days of sawing to cut it down. Climb up on top of the stump, and snap a great photo!
Begin the hike at the Big Stump Picnic Area, near the entrance to Kings Canyon National Park and look for the signs directing you to Big Stump Loop. The full loop is approximately 1.8 miles, and fairly easy terrain. However, you may choose to simply walk out and back to visit the stump itself, which would be a bit shorter.
